Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange information between a web server and a client. Because the info exchanged by the 2 sides is encrypted, a 3rd party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH a favorite means of managing a web hosting account. The commands which may be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for example, the possibilities are limited because you shall not have root access to the server, so you could simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, etc. They're all actions which are carried out inside the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the ability to install server-side software or to restart the hosting server or only a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, but if you don't employ a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a lot of apps for other OSs, which you can use to connect to the remote server as well.

SSH Telnet in Website Hosting

If the website hosting package which you’ve selected through the signup procedure offers SSH access by default, you'll be able to activate this feature with a click in your Hepsia Control Panel. If you've chosen a different plan, the SSH access feature could be added using the Upgrades menu and it shall become available instantly. All the info that you need to connect shall be conveniently listed within the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can even set what password to use from the same spot and you'll be able to modify it at any time. All commands that are permitted are listed inside the Help articles which we've prepared for you, in addition to examples of the syntax which you must use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you'll be able to upload files via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

SSH access is included by default with some of our semi-dedicated server plans, while with others you will be able to include it through the hosting Control Panel if necessary - even just for the current month. In either case, you'll be able to activate and de-activate the function with one click from the SSH section of the CP. In the same place, you'll find the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box where you can easily type in the password that you'd like to use, since it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better protection, you may also change it as often as you need. A complete list of the commands which can be performed in a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and several instances. An extra function after SSH access is enabled will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client which supports this type of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Web Hosting

You will be able to use SSH to handle your content regardless which Linux VPS web hosting packages you pick when you sign up, since all our packages offer this feature by default. You will not need to include or activate anything by hand - the minute your website hosting server is ready and you receive the Welcome e mail with the login information, you may connect and start working on your web sites or any software that you'd like to install and run on the server. You will have root-level access to the VPS and since the account shall be isolated from all of the other accounts on the physical web server, you'll be able to do anything you need with no restrictions. You may install any application you require and which shall run on a Linux-based machine, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and manage your files and databases fast and easy.
